President of the Cyprus Health Tourism Council, UBP Nicosia MP Savaşan stated that the Erenköy Resistance was the cornerstone of the road to the TRNC.
President of Cyprus Health Tourism Council, UBP Nicosia MP Ahmet Savaşan, published a message on the 58th anniversary of the Erenkoy Resistance.
Pointing out that the Erenköy Resistance constituted a very important turning point in the Turkish Cypriot people's struggle for existence Ahmet Savaşan, He emphasized that the students, who left their university education, ran to Erenköy for resistance and held a strategic bridgehead by fighting shoulder to shoulder with the people of the region, laid the cornerstones of the road to the July 20 Happy Peace Operation and the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Stating that in Erenköy, in a mountainous region surrounded and cut off from supply routes, about 500 volunteers from abroad fought heroically together with the local people, Savaşan reminded that they resisted in trenches that could not be called “positions”, without even knowing the weapons because they were not soldiers, some of them armed themselves with 2-3 weeks of shooting training, without a military organization and command center.
Stating that some of them were martyred, some of them witnessed the death of their friends right next to them without knowing life, Savaşan emphasized that it should not be forgotten that the majority of them lived an open prison life in the region for 2 years because they could not leave the region despite the end of the war.
Underlining that the Glorious Erenkoy Resistance, an unprecedented example of struggle in world history, was crowned with a very meaningful and unforgettable victory Ahmet Savaşan, He stated that he believes that the transfer of the Glorious Erenköy Resistance and Victory to young generations will contribute to the Turkish Cypriot people's state to remain on the island forever.
UBP Nicosia Deputy Savaşan included the following statements in his message:
“We commemorate with respect and gratitude the 500 or so young people of that day who landed in Erenköy, our 200 or so mujahideen, our brave women and the people of the region for their extraordinary struggle in coming to these days and achieving our state, we wish God's mercy to our sainted martyrs who are written in golden letters in the history of our national struggle, our Captain Cengiz Topel, who gave his name to many children of our generation, and all our veterans who have passed away, and we wish a life full of health to our nameless heroes who are still alive.”
